Carl Jung was one of the most influential psychiatrists of the 20th Century. He was Swiss and born in Kesswil on the 26 July 1875. He died in Küsnacht on the 6th of June in 1961. During his life he became one of the most an important thinkers in society and is seen as being as important as Sigmund Freud. Jung's influence exceeds the boundaries of science and stretches into the arts and literature, where he had a particular bearing on the artistic development of the Irish writer Samuel Beckett.
Carl Jung was known as the founder of analytical psychology and is considered the first modern psychologist in his statement that the psyche is "by nature religious", which was a concept he explored in his writing. He has also become a pioneer in dream analysis. Jung's studies and writing covers many themes that break from the mould set by science, such areas of Jung's study were astrology, Eastern and Western philosophy, alchemy. He used these areas of world knowledge to explore the human psyche and how symbold play a role in an individuals inner life. In ways which pioneered the science of the mind, Jung found in dreams an entry point to the unconscious.
